The word "phubbing" may not yet be in the dictionary, but the phenomenon – namely, the act of snubbing someone in a social setting by paying attention to your mobile phone instead – is all too real.

"In Chinese, we call it 'di tou zu,'" Leo Liang, senior director/national business development for Youku Tudou, China's leading online video platform, told delegates at the Festival of Media Asia 2014.

The literal translation of this phrase is "lowered head clan." But whatever the language, the result is the same....
